Unwavering Support from a Father: A Love Tattoo

It was every parent’s worst fear for John Marshall in 2015 when he found out that his son Gabriel had a rare and aggressive brain tumor. Gabriel had many treatments and surgeries, but he still had a scar from one that made him feel like a “monster.”

John did something brave to show his son that he wasn’t alone. He got a tattoo that looks exactly like Gabriel’s scar to show support and understanding.

The St. Baldrick Foundation’s #Bestbalddad competition, in which dads shave their heads to help kids with cancer, gave John the top prize for this brave act. John’s entry stood out—a permanent memory of how committed he was.

This is a touching example of parental love

Alison Sutton from the St. Baldrick Foundation praised John’s bravery and said it was the first time they had seen a dad do something so extreme to cheer up his kid.

John’s story touched people all over the world like flames. The kind thing he did for no reason is a powerful reminder:

Parents will do anything to make sure their kid knows they are loved and cared for.

Having empathy is strong: Gabriel knew John understood his problems because of the tattoo on his arm.

Love has no limits. The love of a parent can get you through even the hardest times.

A Legacy That Lasts

People see John’s tattoo as a sign of hope and strength. People are moved by his story to always be there for loved ones who are going through hard times.

What amazing acts of love and support have you seen or been a part of?
