Their research found that a maternal grandmother’s presence directly impacted a child’s survival rate, likely due to the stronger genetic bond. In simple terms, the more DNA a child shares with their grandmother, the more likely she is to provide care and support.
For example, just as a mother is more inclined to prioritize her own child over a distant relative. A maternal grandmother shares a higher genetic connection with her grandchildren. She may feel a stronger instinct to nurture and protect them.
